We use these along with red tube to catch cod and pollock off the north east coast
of England,
fishing out of Whitby. 100-150mm of soft plastic tube is slid over the hook then
attached to a 1.5m length of mono or use three on short lines and jig with them.

I use them on the ends of the AVA metals with colored tubes and small swimming eels. Great stuff
