The Sufix 832 #40 will be used in my third "stealth rig" setup. As you see from my
order, I live in Southern California and all my fishing is done in deep blue yonder
off California coast with occasional trips into Mexican water. I usually fish 40-120
miles out from coast looking for Blue and Yellow Fin tuna, Dorado (Dolphin), and
Yellowtail species during the May thru November. What I consider off season fishing
of November thru April is spend catching Rock Fish, Cod, Halibut, Calico Bass, and
other species much closer to coast or at Catalina Islands.
And here's my basic stealth rig set up.I use Abu 6500CT and Avet SX 2spd loaded with
20# braid with topshot of 15# fluorocarbon (6 to 10 feet), matched with Calstar
800XL to be used as shock absorber. I have been catching tuna up to 50 pounds plus
with this setup. The live bait appears more natural in presentation due to thin
diameter and less water influences on the line, and bait swim much more naturally.
I've had outstanding success with this set up for the past few years.
I've acquired Shimano Calcutta 800F (Japanese Domestic Model
http://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/2826 ), which is a beefier version of US
spec Calcutta 300 but not as beefier as OCEA version of Calcutta (also JDM) to allow
for better casting. Now my experience of using various braids has led me to use
Suffix 832 for my conventional and bait casting reels. Many of the newer 8 strands
and 12 strands braid are not suited for conventional or bait casting reels. Because
they are simply too soft and causes "Dig In, and Backlash." When you apply large
load like fighting fish, the line digs in, and are not noticed until you re-cast
with sudden stop as result. The sudden stop often cause line breakage as well since
line don't stretch. Many pricy 8 or 12 stands braids are better suited for spin
casting reels. I prefer to use medium or harder body hybrid braid lines with my
conventional and bait casting reels, hence my order for Sufix 832. This will be
loaded to Calcutta 800F, and remaining spool will be filled with Sunline
Fluorocarbon 16#. This should provide approximately 200 yards of total line
capacity.
