All the life-like scale detail and selections from the incredible patterns of the original X-Rap. The massive diving-lip takes the X-Rap Magnum deep...unassisted. Nothing to hinder the action. These run perfect right out of the box, no wasted time tuning. They can be run up to 13 knots for big game fish worldwide.
Here is a little bit on how I will use these lures where I am:
I fish Jervis bay, a large bay 3 hrs south of Sydney harbour. I will mainly
troll the rapala lures along the head lands, bommies and reefs to pick up
pelagic fish like kingfish (yellowtail) tuna, bonito and also snapper along
the rocks. Although this time of year you never quite know what is going to
jump on! Often we will troll a couple of lures mid-water along with live
baits (squid, mackrel, yakkas). We will also cast the lures in tidal waters
around structure and when it heats up during the middle of the day, I down
rig the lures to around 18-22 meters. I use a range of shimano tyrnos
overhead reels on matching rods loaded with a range of 40-80lb braid and
wind on leaders for this. To date, medium action lures with a red head and
white body get hit the most.
The poppers I will cast over the bommies and drop offs and hope for kingies
or even a tuna or marlin. The area we fish is one of only a couple in
Australia that enables anglers to catch marlin of the rocks, although I
will be casting these from a boat. I use a shimano terez and stradic 6000
loaded with 20lb braid for this, typically with a 30lb rod length leader.
Poppers a bit of hit or miss and make you work more for your fish, but when
you get one this way it is awesome!
